How You’ll Make An Impact
We are seeking a field technician to support ongoing environmental monitoring programs and to assist with site assessment and remediation projects. The position will be based out of our Sacramento or Auburn office and may include travel to field sites throughout California. Tasks will include design, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of environmental monitoring equipment, as well as construction monitoring, site inspections, maintenance and repair of field equipment and monitoring wells, oversight of subcontractors, and preparation of field reports and sections of technical reports.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Design/build of environmental monitoring equipment including mobile labs
- Construction monitoring related to hazardous substances
- Conduct field visits, take photographs, prepare writeup of observations for technical reports (including Phase I ESAs)
- Conduct groundwater, soil, soil vapor, and/or indoor air sampling
- Operation and maintenance of groundwater treatment system equipment and appurtenances
- Rehab of groundwater monitoring wells
- Oversight of subcontractors
- Work may occasionally be requested on non-standard hours/days, including some weekends
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with field equipment (e.g., photoionization detector (PID), flame ionization detector (FID), 4-gas monitor, Draeger pump/tubes, hand auger, water quality meters)
- Mechanical expertise – capable of troubleshooting and repairing machinery and equipment
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS/associates in environmental science field
- Education requirement waived if applicant has relevant field experience and certifications
- OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER Certification
- OSHA 10-hr Construction certification
- Technical writing experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail, organized, problem solver
Compensation: $25.00-35.00/hourly*
- Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.
Working Conditions
- This job operates in an outdoor or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
- This job requires project site visits based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This job requires the following:
- Working on a computer, sitting, or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
- Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).
- This job may require working with SCADA equipment, which must be handled with care, and pieces of which may be heavy. It may also require working with PVC and steel pipe, including replacing portions of piping using large tools and other related tools/materials.
- Attending meetings, both in person and virtually, and speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc;
- Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus;
- Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
