The Accounting Intern is responsible for providing administrative and accounting support to the construction office team. This internship offers hands-on experience across multiple accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll, within a dynamic heavy civil construction environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated student to build practical skills, gain real-world accounting experience, and grow alongside an experienced finance team. This position works approximately 25–35 hours per week and reports to the Controller of Construction Operations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Including but not limited to the list below.

Support multiple areas of accounting management including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and billing.
Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with company policies and established best practices.
Manage journal entries and invoices, and prepare and reconcile accounts for monthly or annual closing.
Assist with payroll tracking and submittal.
Maintain and keep up-to-date vendor packets and contract records with leaders and vendors.
Compile data required for reports.
Update information in the company database.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.

Skills and Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, coursework toward an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to type 40 words per minute.
Strong attention to detail with good analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to identify potential issues proactively and problem-solve effectively.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize duties.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Display a willingness to adapt, learn, and grow according to the needs of the company.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.

Physical Requirements:

Able to sit, type, and perform computer work for extended periods of time.
Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer entry.
Able to see, talk, hear, stand, and walk.
Able to perform occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.
Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
