Structural Designer - Fargo, Grand Forks, or Bismarck, ND

The Structural Designer is recognized as a technical specialist using initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods or research trends to develop client solutions. Work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other project team members to design a variety of structural engineering projects. Project types include but are not limited to water/wastewater treatment facilities, industrial structures, and commercial buildings.
Responsibilities
- Leads and coordinates complex project planning, setup, and execution through final project completion.
- Use established CAD standards by applying engineering design knowledge to prepare electronic drawings with minimal Engineer input or direction.
- Design structures and related components while providing conceptual input to team members during the planning stages of projects. on occasion and complete drawing reviews as needed.
- Draft, update, and plot plans and details.
- Coordinate with engineers and other design team members to organize and plan work to accomplish goals on projects within established budgets and timelines.
- Organize and maintain project files and standard databases.
- Apply understanding of construction sequencing and composition to complex building structures.
Basic
- Associates degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in structural engineering or architectural profession.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge and technical understanding to independently perform structural plan and detail layouts with extreme attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and computer-aided design software (Revit).
- Outstanding listener that delivers well-organized written and verbal communication.
- Ability to apply knowledge to provide team direction for solving problems.
- Moderate to complex functional knowledge of wood, cold formed steel, structural steel, cast in place concrete, precast concrete, and masonry construction practices.

- Primary functions require physical ability and sufficient mobility to work in an office setting.
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
- Operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement.
- Fine coordination including the use of a computer keyboard.
- May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload.
- May be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town.
