Summary/Objective
The
Business Development Associate will support McFarland Johnson’s Divisional business development efforts by assisting with client relationship management, market research, lead tracking, networking activities, pursuit support, and conference planning and management. Working closely with the Business Development Director, division leadership, and marketing team, this position will help identify growth opportunities, maintain client and prospect information, coordinate business development activities, and contribute to firm initiatives. The Business Development Associate will play an important role in supporting client engagement and advancing the division’s strategic growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Divisional business development efforts through client engagement activities, relationship tracking, and opportunity identification.
- Assist with coordinating client visits, industry conferences, trade shows, networking events, and related association activities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective clients, industry partners, and key stakeholders under the guidance of the Business Development Director and divisional leadership.
- Assist with social media campaigns and content development.
- Maintain and update client, prospect, and opportunity information within the Deltek Vantagepoint or similar CRM system.
- Assist with researching divisional market trends, funding opportunities, capital improvement programs, and industry developments.
- Track and monitor project leads, business development activities, and client interactions, ensuring information is accurately documented and communicated to leadership.
- Support the preparation of client meeting materials, briefing documents, presentations, and follow-up communications.
- Assist with gathering and organizing information needed for proposals, qualification packages, interviews and client presentations.
- Collaborate with technical staff, project managers, and the marketing team to support qualification packages, proposals, interview preparations, and pursuit strategies.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of key account and client relationship plans.
- Prepare reports and dashboards related to business development activities, CRM metrics, pursuit tracking, and client engagement efforts.
- Coordinate internal business development meetings and maintain action item tracking for pursuits and client initiatives.
- Perform other business development, marketing, and client relationship support activities as assigned.
Requirements And Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field required.
- 3-5 years of experience in marketing/communications within the A/E/C field.
- Desktop publishing software skills including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and database management (Deltek Vantagepoint).
- Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish professional relationships with clients, associations and colleagues.
- Ability to travel for client meetings, conferences, or industry events.
Working Conditions
Under general supervision, this position requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze information and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The employee must be able to establish positive working relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
The majority of routine work is performed in a general office setting. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers, programs and various pieces of office equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach and move about the office and/or project site. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
