The Advanced Perception Threat Awareness (APTA) division at SARA is making the future of Aerospace Autonomy happen now, with a charter to create new and emerging sensor perception technologies for Commercial & Military markets. Our innovative technologies include RF, optical and acoustic sensors enabled with innovative embedded algorithms, machine learning and robust networking.
SARA is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and experienced Systems Engineer to support activities out of our Cypress, CA location. You will have the opportunity to grow and learn from talented engineers, physicists, and business executives all dedicated to existing product lines as well as new ventures supporting our customers. You will play a leading role in establishing the opportunities and requirements of problems that we seek to address for our customers, as well as specifying the solution we will offer as the product. Accordingly, you feel comfortable dynamically executing projects, communicating with stakeholders, and pitching new projects.
Core Responsibilities:
- Apply Systems Engineering methodology and best practices to solve challenging engineering, technology and regulatory problems
- Develop and champion systems engineering processes and procedures to ensure technical requirements are well-documented, understood, decomposed, allocated, traced, and verified
- Validate mission and system requirements with simulation and other forms of quantitative analysis
- Develop well-conceived strategies for design verification and lead plan execution
- Shape program/product vision, requirements, roadmaps, and design approaches by directly influencing investors, customers, and stakeholders
- Identify key features, metrics and requirements for new products
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related technical field
- 6+ years Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, traceability, design documentation, verification, validation, and fielding
- Familiar with both hardware and software development processes for complex sensor systems
- Experience with model-based systems engineering and related tools
- Ability to persuasively pitch a design in high pressure environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills on technical topics to a technical or nontechnical audience
- US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- May require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds
- Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- 10+ years Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, traceability, design documentation, verification, validation, and fielding
- Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler, Matlab, Simulink, JIRA, Git
- Experience with standards such as RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-254, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1472
- Active DoD security clearance

Pay Range:
Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $135,000 to $170,000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees.
