Clinical Assistant Description: The ideal Clinical Assistant will be dedicated to providing compassionate patient care and enhancing the patient experience by facilitating an efficient process flow. This individual will be conscientious, self-motivated, and solutions oriented.
As the Clinical Assistant for a rapidly growing company, the individual in this role will blend patient care with design and fabrication of devices. Like other healthcare providers, the Clinical Assistant will work in partnership with other healthcare professionals and become familiar with all aspects of their patients’ rehabilitative care. The primary function of orthotic and prosthetic rehabilitation is to increase and improve mobility in patients with physical limitations and treat other orthopedic conditions of the spine and limbs with mechanical devices to relieve symptoms. The Clinical Assistant would assist in building and providing orthotic and prosthetic devices to address their patients’ needs under the supervision of a Certified Orthotist and/or Certified Prosthetist.
A successful Clinical Assistant will require the ability to shift gears quickly and often, assisting in all aspects of patient care from participating in patient evaluations, implementation/follow up of the treatment plan, adjustment of devices and the fitting of Off-the-Shelf devices. This role will require working in a team environment and assisting the Orthotist and, at times, having the ability to make decisions after proper training. This individual cares about providing the highest quality patient care and wants to be a part of a life changing industry. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are critical. The ability to multi-task and re-prioritize regularly, as well as a keen attention to detail, are also essential; along with self-motivation and the ability to operate with a high level of discretion.
Core Responsibilities:
The Clinical Assistant requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Assistance in the guided evaluation of orthoses on patients to ensure fit, function, and quality
- Fitting, repairing and maintaining orthoses under guidance of and in consultation with the Orthotist
- Make assigned casts, obtain measurements, model modifications, and scanning
- Use of machinery for trimming, grinding, buffing of orthotic devices
- Scribing of notes using Athena Patient software
- Performing other duties as needed based on clinic setting
Certification Requirements (Completed during the Training Program):
Certified Orthotic Assistant
- Anatomy & Physiology Course
- Medical Terminology Course
- Physics Course
- 1900 training hours
Certified Fitter of Orthotics
Education/Experience:
- Minimum of High School Degree required; Completion of some collegiate coursework preferred
- Related technical experience and/or training in hands-on/mechanically-oriented field, preferred
- Experience in patient care and/or rehabilitation, preferred
