JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Safety Specialist ensures compliance with CalOSHA and OSHA Standards for Construction by developing and delivering safety kick-off presentations, conducting on-site orientations, and leading pre-task planning meetings. This role actively participates in on-site training to enhance safety efforts, ensuring the safety of site workers and the public through daily safety inspections, assessments, and audits. The specialist makes recommendations to improve or eliminate hazardous conditions related to company equipment, facilities, or machinery and compiles daily, weekly, and monthly reports as requested by management or clients. Serving as the company liaison with municipalities, OSHA, insurance carriers, and other regulatory agencies, the specialist maintains all safety-related documentation and fosters a collaborative relationship with project teams to ensure zero incidents. Providing training and guidance to project teams and subcontractors, facilitating incident investigations, conducting root cause analysis, and reporting corrective actions are also key responsibilities. Additionally, maintaining cross-functional relationships to enhance safety initiatives and effectively integrating best-in-class safety performance are essential to this role, along with handling other assigned duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Duties as required by CalOSHA / OSHA Standards for Construction
- Develop safety kick-off presentations and conduct on-site orientations and pre-task planning meetings.
- Participate and assist with on-site training to enhance safety efforts.
- Ensure compliance for the safety of site workers and public.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections, safety assessments and safety audits.
- Make recommendations concerning the modification, improvement, or removal of any company equipment, facilities, or machinery that is hazardous to employee safety or health.
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly reports as requested by management or clients.
- Serve as company liaison with overseeing municipalities, OSHA, Insurance carriers and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintain all safety related documentation.
- Maintain a working relationship with project teams to facilitate zero incidents.
- Provide training and guidance to all project teams, and our subcontractors, to implement effective safety methodologies on site.
- Facilitate incident investigation, root cause analysis and reporting for corrective actions.
- Be actively engaged in maintaining cross-functional relationships to foster cooperation and enhance safety endeavors.
- Effectively integrate best in class safety performance.

SOFTWARE USE
Microsoft Office Suite, HCSS Safety (or equal)
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Fluent in English, written and verbal (bilingual Spanish preferred)
- Collegiate Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or equivalent (preferred)
- OSHA 30 Hr. for Construction (required)
- 5 year minimum Construction Safety Experience (required)
- Certified Health and Safety Technician Certified (preferred)
- Certified Safety Professional Certified (preferred)
- Safety Trains Supervisor for Construction (preferred)
- OSHA Outreach Trainer for Construction Certified (preferred)
- Ability to teach and train others on safety programs
- Ability to plan and implement projects
- Ability to identify known potential exposures and recommending corrective action
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, HCSS Safety) (required)
- Technological competency (required)
- 5+ years of construction experience in a dedicated safety role.
- Experience working within a heavy construction, civil environment.
- Experience with the implementation of Environmental Health & Safety enhancement programs.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-employment background screening investigation results that are acceptable to GCC at GCC’s sole discretion.
