This position will support outreach and data collection for one client, the Maryland Transit Administration. As a Spanish-speaking Rider Talker for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), your primary responsibility will be to survey and collect data from riders of public transport, including buses, light rail, metro, and MARC trains. Your role is crucial in obtaining valuable feedback and insights from riders to improve the overall public transportation experience. You will play an important part in understanding the needs and preferences of the ridership and communicating this information to the relevant stakeholders within the transit agency
We prioritize candidates with demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice and experience supporting successful campaigns to reach diverse audiences. Also desired: experience and strong interest in transportation (e.g., transit, connectivity, mobility justice, construction), health (e.g., social determinates of health and healthcare), or the environment (e.g., water infrastructure, clean water, built environment, waste management and recycling).
Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Communications
- Conduct Surveys: Engage with riders on various public transport modes, including buses, light rail, metro, and MARC trains, and conduct surveys to collect data.
- Data Collection: Gather accurate and relevant data from riders, including feedback on their experience, satisfaction levels, suggestions for improvement, and any other information deemed necessary by the transit agency.
- Compile and Analyze Data: Organize and compile the collected data in a systematic manner. Perform basic analysis on the data to identify patterns, trends, and insights that can help improve the quality of public transportation services.
- Communication: Effectively communicate survey results and data analysis findings to the Program Manager. Present the information in a clear and concise manner, emphasizing key areas for improvement and potential solutions.
Client Relations
- Establish and support effective working relationships with clients, community-based organizations, and communities

Administrative
- Maintain or exceed billable utilization goals
- Complete timesheets and expense reports on time and with accurate information

Experience/Education
- This is an entry-level position designed for a recent college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or journalism or equivalent experience in community engagement or related discipline or someone interested in transitioning into the community engagement profession.
- Experience working with historically underserved communities highly desired.
- Experience working in customer or client service and/or the public sector highly desired.
Skills Required
- Native/fluent Spanish language skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Excellent public speaking, oral communications, and community outreach skills
- Able to write concisely and quickly in a variety of client styles, using plain language
- Able to analyze complex technical information, translate into easily understood language, and tailor messages for public audiences
- Education or coursework in survey research, data analysis, or related fields is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with riders from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong data collection and surveying abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic data analysis skills to identify trends and insights from collected data.
- Proficiency in using survey tools, data management software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of public transportation systems, including buses, light rail, metro, and MARC trains, is advantageous.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and evenings, to capture a representative sample of riders.
Desirable, but not Essential, Skills and Interests
- Interest in planning, transportation infrastructure, transportation, water quality, and/or environmental sustainability
- Valid drivers license
Billable Utilization
In this role, your time will largely be spent working on projects and billing your time to clients. Approximately 90% of your time in this role should be billed to clients (36 hours out of a 40-hour work week). The remainder would be billed to PRR to complete company activities, engage in business development, attend company events, and participate in growth and development opportunities. Our staff track and report their time spent on projects and company activities each week.
Compensation
The full salary range for this position is $28.85 - 33.65 per hour. We aim to hire new employees between $28.85 - $32.00 per hour (depending on experience) allowing for future compensation growth within the range based on aptitude in the role, context, progress, and performance against goals over time.
