We are seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drill Operator to operate a directional drill rig and equipment to assist in construction projects.

Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to:

Must be proficient in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operation for pilot bore, reaming and product pullback. Properly operate rod loader systems and pump levels. Ditch Witch and Vermeer experience preferred.
Must be proficient with HDD mud mixing equipment and have a working knowledge of mud mixing materials and quantities.
Working knowledge of HDD Locate Equipment.
Perform general site preparation, restoration and right of way maintenance duties.
Develop proficiency in safe operation of HDD and other equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment.
Run power tools.
Perform hand digging.
Transport equipment to and from jobsites.
Load and unload equipment.
Maintain material inventory on truck.
Active leadership skills as lead position while crew foreman is offsite.
Working knowledge of underground utilities.
Working knowledge of 811 requirements and procedures.
Operate controls to stabilize machines and to position and align drills.
Operate backhoes, excavators, pot holing machines.
Perform routine maintenance and upgrade work on machines and equipment, such as replacing parts, building up and rebuilding drill heads when needed, and lubricating machinery.

Required Qualifications:

At least three years’ experience with directional drill rigs with additional experience operating other types of heavy equipment.
At least one year’s experience with construction directional drilling.
Must have valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a Class A CDL with tanker.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of horizontal drilling techniques and standards.
Digitrak and Subsite experience.
Have valid Class A CDL with Tanker.

Required Competencies:

Advanced skill in construction directional drill operations and routine maintenance.
Ability to operate other types of heavy equipment.
Knowledge of construction practices and use of tools and equipment in construction.
Basic mathematical skills.
Advanced troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
Ability to comprehend and apply oral and written instructions.
Ability to complete work accurately, timely, and safely under minimal supervision.
Ability to work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings, weekends, and / or holidays.
Ability to drive motor vehicles and mobile equipment to and on job sites throughout Texas.
Ability to work outside of primary residence area throughout Texas for extended periods of time. (Hotel and per diem provided.)

Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily in outdoor environments with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Constant driving of large equipment and vehicles for long distances with occasional overnight stays.

Physical Demands:

Frequent operation of equipment with moving parts and heavy vibration.
Lifting and / or exerting of force up to 50 pounds frequently, and team lifting heavier items.
Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Frequent climbing, steps, ladders, and in/out/onto vehicles and equipment.
Frequent bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
Visual acuity to drive, to accurately operate heavy machinery, and to read printed and electronic documents.
Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common driving and construction environment noises.
Frequent driving of motor vehicles and mobile heavy equipment.
