Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Sr. Operations Consultant to join our growing O&M consulting team. The right person for this position will leverage their hands-on experience operating a water or wastewater plant, performing start up and commissioning activities, and developing, implementing, or enhancing maintenance programs. This is an opportunity to work in a collaborative team environment where personal contributions and teamwork are valued.
The ideal candidate for this position will have worked in a consulting environment in an O&M role, and/or as a certified treatment operator performing day to day operations and maintenance activities or equivalent process engineering role. Experience in developing, implementing, and enhancing a maintenance program is core to success in this position. Although this position is primarily technical in nature, the candidate must also possess appropriate communication skills to facilitate client workshops, mediate differences of opinion, and participate effectively in a business development meetings. The ability to provide start up and commissioning guidance to clients and BC team members is also desired as this is critical to the successful completion of our projects.
The Sr. Operations Consultant is focused on startup, commissioning, and post commissioning services that we provide and includes, field testing observation and documentation, providing on-station operations assistance to plant operators, preparing, and assisting with the training of operators, writing standard operating procedures, writing operations and maintenance manuals, evaluating data and assisting with process and testing troubleshooting. Attendance at recurring meetings is required, as assigned, to support extended commissioning projects. The role may also assist with operations optimization work, as assigned to develop online tools.
This position requires the candidate to have the physical ability to access water and wastewater plants, collection system and pump stations, and on rare occasions confined space locations. Although you will be part of a team the candidate will work on most projects no other consulting O&M staff present therefore, requires the candidate to have a lot of self-confidence, work independently and be comfortable using technology required to work remotely.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science required; Masters preferred
- Minimum of 6 to 8 years of operations and maintenance experience and/or equivalent treatment process experience.
- Current Wastewater or Water Treatment Operator License a plus
- Experience working in a multi-discipline team environment
- A confident technical writer and demonstrated experience such as O&M manuals, SOPs, etc.
- Public speaking and training experience, work, conference or another format.
- Experience planning and scheduling and knowledge of scheduling software
- Wide breadth of liquid and solids treatment process experience
- Proven ability to develop and facilitate workshops focused on improving maintenance management
- Ability to travel up to 30%
- Participation in Project assignments may be subject to a more advanced background security clearance.
Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Salary $106,000 - $145,000
