Torch Technologies is seeking a Draftsman / Drawing Checker. This position will support our Advanced Concepts Engineering (ACE) Technical Development (TD) business unit. The candidate will support design efforts for multiple platforms including aviation, ground, and weapon systems. Applicant will be integrated into the mechanical engineering division and be documenting MIL-STD compliant systems and components and/or modifications to existing DoD systems.
The selected candidate will be responsible for working with engineers to correctly document complex mechanical and electro-mechanical system, subsystems, and components. The candidate will interface with other members of the design team and government customers to ensure program success.
Responsibilities:
This position requires a highly motivated and detail-oriented applicant who is adept in engineering documentation and use of best drawing practices.
- Design and Drafting: Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings, and schematics for military systems, equipment, and components, ensuring adherence to project specifications and industry standards. Should have extensive experience with geometric dimension and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Technical Drawing Review: Review and check design drawings for accuracy, completeness, compliance with military specifications, and conformity to regulatory and safety standards.
- Collaboration with Engineers: Work closely with engineers and subject matter experts to ensure designs meet operational requirements and functionality.
- Quality Control and Verification: Verify that design documentation and drawings are error-free, complete, and meet quality assurance standards. Conduct thorough checks to ensure consistency across multiple design documents.
- Revisions and Updates: Revise and update existing designs or drawings based on feedback, testing results, or changing project requirements, ensuring proper version control.
- Compliance with Military Standards: Ensure all designs and drafts comply with applicable military standards, codes, and regulations (such as MIL-STD or ASTM).
- Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records of design revisions, changes, and design iterations in accordance with established procedures for document control and archival.
- Support Prototype Development: Assist in the development of prototypes by providing accurate and detailed design documentation for fabrication and assembly.
- Assembly Instructions and Bills of Materials (BOM): Prepare assembly instructions, technical manuals, and Bills of Materials (BOM) for manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Associates degree in drafting or engineering related program or advanced drafting training, equivalent to 2 years of technical school in leu of a degree.
- 4 years of experience is required. Applicants must have extensive experience in the creation of drawings, weldments, shop drawings, and the completion of technical drawing packages. Expertise with SolidWorks is essential.
- Proven ability to interact professionally and effectively with a diverse set of customers, collaborators, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Excellent organizational skills needed to track multiple assignments, adapt to requirements changes, and meet deadlines.
- Background with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in product development, manufacturing, and fabrication
- Experience in a shop (machine and/or fabrication) atmosphere with skills and understanding in welding, and sheet metal fabrication is preferred.
- An applicant well-versed in ASME standards and in experience working in ISO or ASO accredited quality programs is preferred.
- Experience with hydraulic system design / definition
- Background working with Enterprise Product Data Management tool.
- Background with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009.
Workplace safety is a priority at Torch. Candidates must receive and present an OSHA 10-Hour Training Course for General Industry certification (either a card from the Department of Labor or certificate of completion from an authorized trainer) within the first 90 days of employment. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed training prior to employment. Training may be completed online.
