Position overview
The HR Generalist- Benefits is responsible for the day to day administration of the Company’s benefit programs. This position maintains benefit documents, communicates benefit information and ensures the benefit programs are compliant with relevant Federal and State law. This role is also responsible for performing strategic and hands on support for HR related duties in the areas of recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, training, and employment law compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees benefit documents, communicates benefit information and ensures the benefit programs are compliant with relevant Federal and State law
- Provide new hires with benefits information and guidance on benefit plans and enrollment procedures
- Conducts new hire benefit orientations
- Interface with employees and vendors to resolve issues, answer questions and communicate benefits information
- Organize and coordinate recruiting process (create ads, manage on-line postings/ATS, schedule interviews, administer assessments, extend offers, prepare new hire paperwork)
- Provide employee relations support for employees and managers, including resolving issues
- Assist HR Manager in maintaining departmental budget
- Assist HR Manager in work with outside consultant for annual compensation studies
- Manage and track leaves of absence
- Develop and deliver various HR trainings (open enrollment, performance evaluations, HR best practices, etc.)
- Assist in 401k and benefits enrollment administration
- Provide HR reports as needed
- Maintain current working knowledge of compliance and regulatory concerns, industry trends and best HR practices
- Participate in continuous HR improvement initiatives and metrics
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate HR files
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an HR Generalist role
- Understanding of general human resource policies and procedures
- Strong knowledge of employment and labor laws
- Aptitude in problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking
- Desire to work as a team with a result driven approach
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication, listening and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of technology teams and how to grow and develop technology leaders
- Must be well organized to meet heavy workloads and be able to effectively manage multiple tasks
- Requires experience with various computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, HRIS)
- Must demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress
- Desire to learn with natural initiative and curiosity
- Excellent presentation skills and knowledge of employment laws such as ERISA, COBRA, ADA, and other Federal and State laws covering discrimination and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
- Proven ability to successfully work as a team member and build and maintain a positive work environment across the network
Education and/ or Experience
- 7+ years of experience in a HR Generalist role
- 5+ years of benefit experience procedures is required
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent post-secondary degree preferred, or equivalent experience
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certifications preferred
- Prior construction experience preferred
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish
- Strong customer service skills
