SUMMARY: The EPC Utility Scale Safety Manager is responsible for the implementation of Baker safety policies on project sites and for providing oversight of the safety teams assigned to the EPC utility scale solar projects. This position reports to the Corporate Safety Manager and will work closely with our Baker utility scale solar department teams.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance:
- Act as a safety subject matter expert to help implement, promote, and verify compliance with health and safety requirements within EPC utility-scale projects.
- Ensure safety team members assigned to Utility-scale projects implement Baker’s safety and risk management processes.
- Lead, direct, and enforce EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) on multiple projects.
- Ensure Project Management Teams receive guidance on health and safety and confirm that project sites meet industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Ensure all workers assigned to a Baker EPC Utility Scale Solar site receive a new-to-site orientation.
- Audit contractor and subcontractor safety plans for compliance with Baker policies.
- Ensure all EPC sites comply with Heat Illness Prevention regulations and Company standards.
- Assure that contract documents and specifications describe and support the Project’s safety missions and objectives.
Site Inspections & Safety Plans
- Conduct site visits to support site safety team members and operations management.
- Review submitted safety plans from contractors and subcontractors of every tier to determine if the plan meets, exceeds, or is less stringent than Baker’s safety policies.
- Participate in contractor/subcontractor kick-off meetings.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and evaluations to identify and decrease hazards for all companies engaged in work activities.
- Participate in Jobsite Pre-Task Planning.
Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response
- Work with Baker site supervision to develop Traffic Control Plans, Fire Protection Plans, and Emergency Action Plans for their projects.
- Ensure injury-producing events are reported promptly to the Baker Electric Risk Management Coordinator.
- Participate in fact-finding, coordinate corrective action meetings, and resolve all accident/incident investigations.
- Ensure compliance with Baker policies in reviewing contractor and subcontractor safety plans.
- Work with site management to develop the site vehicle permit process.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Experience & Education
- 5+ years’ experience as a Safety Professional with a general contractor or major subcontractor preferred.
- Experience in safety management for a general contractor and a proven ability to build and support safety teams on multiple project sites.
- Experience supporting the project team on the designated Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
- Proven ability to implement policies and procedures and facilitate change.
- Experience with behavioral-based safety processes is a plus.
- Undergraduate degree in Occupational or Environmental Safety and Health is preferred.
- CHST Certification or equivalent is a plus.
- Minimum of OSHA 30-hour training, First Aid/CPR/BBP, and AED training.

The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
